Within this series of articles I explore my conversation with ChatGPT on Liminosophy, and am surprised by the additional information I get. This time we look at leadership.
Within my past research I made the claim that leadership is an art form. There is overwhelming evidence that this is the case. One of them being that the liminal state is just as important in art as it is in leadership and that it provides a fertile ground for shaping reality.
Currently the conscious-rational state is seen as the cognitive space in which leaders make decisions. Subsequently most, if not all leadership models are built on that assumption. However, the problem is that complexity, chaos and rapid change and development can hardly be processed by rational deliberation alone. It is however easily processed and reflected in the liminal state and made productive through something I call "liminal farming":

Similar as in groups, described in a previous article, reality can easily be experienced as a whole within the liminal state, therefore giving the individual the ability to make strategic decisions, shaping entire organisations and preparing them for the future.
Let us see what ChatGPT has to say about this:

So it starts with some good news. The two key terms are "uncertainty" and "transition". It is also my practical experience that liminosophy makes individuals more able to embrace uncertainty and the unknown, boosts their self-confidence and prepares them to lead in uncertain situations, which include transitions from one state to the next. The liminal space is always creative and full of opportunities and solutions which present themselves with ease. But there is more:

I am surprised that ChatGPT without prompting brings up the term meaning. Creating and enabling meaning and purpose are key traits for leaders, who inspire people around them to join in shaping a meaningful, vibrant future. Liminal space is full of meaning, ready to be harvested at any time by the person entering it. Charismatic leaders often speak from that liminal, inspiring space.
Additionally ChatGPT mentions the importance of multiple perspectives and interpretations. My experience with liminal states is that it makes it easy to explore these perspectives on a certain topic. The question that one poses, like "what is my current situation?", forms a "liminal object" in ones own mind. An object which can be scrutinised from different angles and gives information depending on the viewpoint.
ChatGPT closes with an optimistic assessment on liminosophy, highlighting meaning and innovation:
