What is Liminosophy?

When I think of liminosophy, I think of a big landscape, rolling hills with woods on them. Farmland, people living and working within that scenery. The sky is in motion and active. Water is flowing through the valley, and plants and crops are growing. It’s peaceful, colorful, but also full of energy.

When starting out to discover liminosophy, it was together with others. It was on such a farm, secluded from the rest of the world. We were very different from each other, we wanted different things on that farm. For me, it was an awakening to see clearly in front of me what I wanted and who I was. And I asked myself: Is this who you really want to be?

Liminosophy not only gave the mirror to investigate, but it also gave the laboratory to cook a different me. It was like stepping into a pool of water and discovering that it is much deeper and broader. And at the bottom of the pool, there is a luminous substance, something milky and glowing and has a hint of blue.

If I speak metaphorically, then I do this on purpose. I have given up the step-by-step explanation of what liminosophy is - because it’s so astoundingly simple. People recoil from the banality of it. It’s like showing a door and saying: open it. I mean, really?!

Within liminosophy there are many creatures and people to be met and interact with. Some of them talk and some of them sing. Even objects, animals and plants can sing their songs. One time I was talking to a pig about Kiekergaard. It was a very annoying pig, very smug and self-absorbed. The other time I met myself as a boy, reading a book and singing a song about loneliness.

At times liminosophy seems like a Disney cartoon.

Within liminosophy questions and curiosity iae central. To ask is to receive. Sometimes the answers are not to one’s liking, sometimes they are delightful.

However, one must also stay vigilant. The liminosophist is an explorer who isn’t easily enchanted or seduced. Who is entertained, but does not seek out joy. Who does not avoid the suffering of disappointment. To dwell and become comfortable within the realm of liminosophy means to become complacent with what is.

On the original liminal farm, we grew crops. That was the whole point. To have a new kind of crop which others could grow themselves and find sustenance. Oh, they were delicious. Once we brought them to a market and presented them proudly - only to have the villagers pelt us with foul cabbage in return.

This article is one of those crops.
